Hugh Chance
| Colonel Sir Hugh Chance CBE (deceased) Born on the last day of 1896, he joined the Worcestershire Regiment in 1915 War before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in April 1916. After training as a pilot and serving in the UK, he was sent to France with No.27 Sqn flying the Martinsyde G.100 Elephant as a bomber aircraft. On 17th September his aircraft was hit on a raid over Valenciennes and with engine failure he was forced to crash land. He was taken into captivity until the end of hostilities. Post-war he became a director of Chance Brothers until retiring in 1964. He died in 1981. |
