Grover E Thompson USMC Grover Thompson was born on 25th June in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, and joined the Marine Corps in November 1942. After boot camp he was assigned to the 4th Signal Company. He served in the Pacific area for 21 months, during which time he participated in the invasions of Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Remarkably, Grover was never injured, and was honorably discharged on 27th November 1945 as a Private 1st Class. As a civilian, he owned and operated a successful restaurant in Gettysburg, PA, where he still resides today. He enjoys big game hunting and stays aggressively involved in numerous military organizations, including the 4th Marine Division Assn.
