Herb Ing | Herb Ing USMC Herb enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1939. In 1941 he served aboard the USS Wyoming and USS South Dakota. In 1943, he was assigned to L Company, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marine Division and participated in amphibious operations including the Marshall Islands, Saipan and Iwo Jima. Serving for over 30 years in the Marine Corps, Herb is a veteran of three wars; World War Two, Korea and the Vietnam War. Herb held many positions, including Instructor, Platoon Commander, Operations Officer and Commanding Officer. In 1967 he was assigned as the G3 Operations Officer, 1st Marine Division RVN and Commanding Officer at the Officers Candidate School in Quantico. Herb retired at the rank of Colonel in 1971. His decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit and Purple Heart. |
