Items in this pack : Item #1 - Click to view individual item DHM6768APB. Tribute to James G Struthers RNAS by Ivan Berryman. The airship was formidable as an anti-submarine weapon in the latter stages of World War One. The British formed patrols guarding the coasts of the British Isles and significantly reduced the toll on shipping that the German U-boats were taking. Here, the C or Coastal Class airship C-9, commanded by Flight Commander (later Major) James G Struthers has discovered and successfully bombed another victim - one of seven in total he claimed during he war. C-9 was the most successful airship of her class, flying over 2,500 hours and covering 68,201 miles in her four year career. Her commander, James G Struthers, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and two Bars. Small limited edition of 20 artist proofs. Image size 16 inches x 12 inches (41cm x 31cm)
Item #2 - Click to view individual item CLP2977. Clipped Signature - James G Struthers. Born in 1885, he was an airship commander in World War One. He flew the Coastal class airship C-9 from RNAS Mullion from 1916 to combat the threat of U-boats, Struthers and his crew claimed seven of them sunk. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and two Bars. He died in 1979.

An airship commander in World War One, he commanded Coastal class airship C-9 after it had been so devastatingly commanded by his predecessor, James G Struthers who sank seven U-boats. Employed in the role of anti-submarine patrols, these airships significantly reduced the threat from the German U-boats.
